Birmingham's Batonbearers
Sheraz Yaqub - 28 July at 10:05am, Perry Hall Park
Born and bred in Brum, Sheraz Yaqub, Head of Online Service Delivery, has worked at the council since 2008 and is also super busy giving his time and support to many worthwhile projects and charity work.
Making a positive contribution to the next generation in his local community he has volunteered for over 10 years as a LEA Governor at a local primary school. Sheraz is also a member of the West Midlands Police independent group and assists with the interface between local communities, faith groups and the Police to help keep the streets safe and improve the community. To relax his hobbies, include cricket where he’s describes himself as ‘a bit of an all-rounder’, looking after his koi fish and as a qualified archer he teaches archery to local groups.
Looking forward to representing his city, he knows he will have lots of support from family and friends to help him cherish this special moment. He recognises that the games will bring fresh ideas, motivation and inspiration to lots of different local communities, and he is proud to be part of this legacy.
‘Super Daddy’ Sheraz has already been seen sporting his baton bearer outfit and his two daughters are super excited and proud to see him carry the baton but, they have insisted on Daddy buying up most of the Commonwealth Games merchandise and Perry Bull mascots.
