Birmingham was awarded the 2022 Commonwealth Games on 21 December 2017 and has been working with Games partners ever since to prepare for the event, its legacy and maximise the opportunities it offers for our staff, citizens and communities.
Birmingham and the West Midlands region will benefit from a £778 million investment in staging the Games. This includes an investment from central government of £594 million and a key investment from Birmingham City Council and several of our partners totalling £184 million.
The Birmingham Organising Committee for the 2022 Commonwealth Games is responsible for the delivery of the Games. The city council’s role is preparing the infrastructure for an event of celebration and a nation coming together.
