Birmingham's Batonbearers
Darnish Amraz - 28 July at 1pm, Aston Park outside Aston Hall
Senior Youth Worker Darnish Amraz joined the council in 2004 and welcomes this accolade as an ‘opportunity of a lifetime’. Through attending the youth centre as a teenager, Darnish was encouraged and mentored by local Youth Workers to study and carve out a career, which is exactly what he’s done.
Darnish has helped and supported the development of many young people and outside of work he has offered practical help and support to families in the local community.
Other interests include Thai Boxing which harnessed his determination early on as a teenager and the discipline needed for this sport has hugely helped his focus. Having achieved success in Thai Boxing, as English Champion and success on the international stage, Darnish is still active training in this sport and helping future champions at the local club. Other outstanding achievements include working with the UK Youth Parliament and mentoring young people to get involved with politics and later input to the ‘stop knife crime’ campaign.
As a proud receiver of the Police and Crime Commissioner Diamond Award, Darnish appreciates the praise and recognition as a baton bearer and his three children will be there to watch.
Generating change through consistent messaging to young people about application, believing and focusing on the opportunities he hopes he is a role model to the youth of today about what can be achieved. We feel sure that you are too!
