Keeping the city safe
Birmingham City Council worked closely with West Midlands Police (WMP) and other security partners to ensure we delivered a safe and secure Games in the city for all our residents, businesses, and visitors.
The operation for Birmingham 2022 was the biggest in WMP’s history, and there were over 3,000 officers involved in delivering a reassuring and proportionate policing and security operation, which welcomed visitors to the city and reflected the values of the Commonwealth Games.
Officers from a range of police departments were involved such as:
- firearms
- drones
- traffic
- counter-terrorism
Officers from other forces and emergency services were also present.
West Midlands Police’s used the very latest in cutting-edge security technology, ensuring the Games were a safe and secure spectacle for everyone involved.
